WHERE ARE WE

Pine Lane Thoroughbreds Pty Ltd has been established by Terry and Kerry Clarke to provide a vehicle for the syndication of thoroughbred horses that they have bred at their property Pine Lane Stud located at Orielton just outside Hobart and close to the airport.

WHAT IS OUR BACKGROUND IN RACING

Terry has a long involvement with the thoroughbred industry extending back to the first horse he bred in 1972. He has also been a Committee member of the Tasmanian Racehorse Owners Association (TROA) and Thoroughbred Breeders Tasmania (TBT) where he was President for some five years and during which time he also held the position of Treasurer on the national body Thoroughbred Breeders Australia (TBA). During his working life to 2007 when he left the position of CEO of TOTE Tasmania Pty Ltd, he held high profile positions in finance and during the years 1993 to 1999 was a board member and CEO of the Tasmanian TAB. In the period of 1999 to 2007 he established, through the implementation of Government policy, and was CEO of TOTE Tasmania Pty Ltd which was the first organisation in Australia to combine an entire racing industry (all three codes) and the TAB and which has since been copied by Western Australia and New Zealand. In short Terry brings to Pine Lane Thoroughbreds nearly 40 years hands on experience of breeding and racing thoroughbred horses as well as over 20 years in administration of racing at grass roots level and executive and board roles.
 

In terms of advice given to prospective syndicate members Terry can draw on experience of syndication commencing in 1985 when he syndicated a stallion by selling shares in Tasmania. Since that time he has consistently syndicated horses in every year, that is, some 24 years by undertaking the role of identifying and then encouraging individuals to join a syndicate with him.  In that time he has had no formal complaint from any syndicate member and many of them have participated in more than one syndicate.
 

Terry’s knowledge of racing also stems from his involvement through his father and brother who were both horse trainers and in addition to his own breeding and racing activities, his period of some ten years as head of the entire Tasmanian racing industry.
 

Terry has had considerable success and together with Kerry horses bred have won some 90 races in Tasmania and Victoria. Since 2000 15 horses have been syndicated with a high degree of success with 11 being winners 4 placed. This experience is the basis on which Terry and Kerry have decided to expand the syndication activities to the wider public having in the past concentrated on attracting syndicate members from amongst close friends and business acquaintances. To this end Terry now holds an Australian Financial Services licence (No. 338941).
 

Kerry has been involved with riding and handling thoroughbreds since working weekends during her school days at Coffs Harbour and when she moved to live in Hobart in 1984. Kerry and Terry were married in 1989 and have together since that time undertaken the hands on role of breeding and raring all their thorougbreds. Several of these have been sold through public auction up to $100,000. In the period of 20 years they have not only planned the matings of their band of broodmares but also have foaled them down, weaned and rared the offspring up to sale time or to go into racing (over 30 in the last decade).
 

Having regard to the foregoing potential syndicate members can be assured that the horses offered by Pine Lane Thorougbreds will have been expertly raised and nurtured to provide a horse that is physically and mentally ready to accept the task of performing on the racetrack without fear that anything has been left to chance.
